Hiking the Sisters Rock Trail on the Oregon Coast

Distance: 1.0 miles / 1.6 km

The Sisters Rock Trail, just south of Port Orford and Humbug Mountain, is one of the easiest kid-friendly trails on the entire Oregon Coast.

The trail, which begins at just over 200 ft. (61 m) in elevation, descends a relatively easy, gradual path down to the two Sister Rocks and the beaches on either side.

This is all to say that the Sisters Rock Trail can be as laid-back or as adventurous as you want it to be—meaning both Sister Rocks can be climbed—but that’s not to say that getting up is easy!

Sisters Rock Trailhead Parking

Parking for the Sisters Rock Trail is located in a large parking lot off the side of U.S. 101 between Port Orford to the north and Gold Beach to the south.

Hiking Checklist - Oregon Coast

Black bears can be found up and down the Oregon Coast, but hiking with or without bear spray is truly up to your own discretion and comfort level when adventuring in black bear territory.

Furthermore, here is a complete list of must-have things that you will want for any hike on the Oregon Coast.

Hiking the Sisters Rock Trail

The Sisters Rock Trail is an entirely downhill hike, but the elevation change is only about 200 ft. (61 m) over the course of 0.5 miles (0.8 km).

Once near the Sister Rocks, you can explore the beaches on either side of the small peninsula or scramble up one of the rocks.

Warning

Yes, both Sister Rocks can be climbed, but the North Sister is significantly more challenging going both up and down than the south.

Do not attempt either unless you are comfortable climbing/ scrambling on either rock.

Even if I don’t end up booking through them, I think it’s one of the best ways to see what’s in the area!

Best Way to Book Rental Cars!

I travel quite a bit, and I know firsthand that finding a good rental car deal can be a challenge, but that’s why I recommend comparing all of your options with Discover Cars.

In short, Discover Cars is a well-known, reputable business that allows you to search for the best deal across companies, and they have the best full-refund cancellation policy I’ve ever seen, valid up to 72, or sometimes even 48, hours prior to your reservation!
